Deer Clan is an ode to the matrilineal Deer Clan of the Haudenosaunee. This painting uses three identical images to highlight different aspects of the painting. A brown deer cautiously searching for living vegetation among the snow-covered ground is framed by a diamond decorated with traditional Haudenosaunee patterns. The green background with purple designs creates a secondary framing effect for the deer.
